How To Stay Awake When Necessary

Sleep problems are rampant today. Whether you sleep too much or can not get enough sleep the implications can devastate your life or the lives of others. Figuring out how to fall asleep or figuring out how to stay awake seems to have become an epidemic in many ways. Both of these problems are actually related. They are related in the same way that anxiety and depression are flip slides of the same coin. People who can not fall asleep at night, can not function during the day. They find it hard to hold down a job or to study or even preform the most basic of daily tasks.  They may even get in accidents that cause hard to them self or others.

Their insomnia at night turns into the opposite problem during the day when they have to figure out how to stay awake. Many methods that these type of people employ to stay awake during the day rebounds on them when they try yet again to fall asleep at night and sleep eludes them. The next step may be to take sleeping pills. These work great but can you function the next day or are you too sleepy to manage the basic tasks you need to preform. Some medications work better then others and some have more side effects. It is a process of trial and error and when you find what works, it is easy to get addicted.

Pills are not the solution. They treat the symptoms but not the cause. The best cure is to figure out what the problem is caused by. Not being able to sleep can have medical reasons so it's best to see your doctor. They are more likely however to be caused by psychological or emotional reasons such as stress, worry and anxiety. Getting therapy can go along way to improving the situation. You may need some sleeping pills in the beginning to allow you to get rest so that you can focus on your issues. However, you should be able to be weened off the pills until you've coped with your issues and solved your sleep problems.
