Beating Depression- 3 ways to Overcome Depression

Depression can affect your entire life. You feel low, tired and alone. The things you used to take great pleasure in no longer hold your interest. You feel trapped in negative thoughts and feelings and no one seems to understand what your going through. But there are ways to fight these feelings, and although it may be difficult at first, once you incorporate better habits and more positive activities in your life, your outlook will be much brighter.

1. Sleep
Since your depression has set in, you've probable noticed your not sleeping very well either. Insomnia is often a symptom of depression. When you don't have enough sleep, you mind has a more difficult time dealing with problems and emotions, sometimes making you feel even more incapable of dealing with life's challenges. It's extremely important to practice better sleeping habits when depressed. Sometimes anxiety and insomnia keep you from falling asleep, that's why you have to work on multiple aspects of your live to overcome depression. Set a time and a calming routine at bedtime and eliminate distractions like television or radio.

2. Reconnect with People
Depressed people tend to isolate themselves from friends and family, and limit most social contact, but the best thing you can do is surround yourself with loving support. Just having lunch with a friend and paying a visit to a family member for a few hours will help you realize there are people out there who care. People are social animals, and need face to face contact with others.

3. Stop Negative Thoughts
Ruminating is a big part of depression. You are consumed with negative thoughts of low self esteem and self worth. Sometimes preventing these feelings is simply a matter of not allowing yourself to think them. When you feel these thoughts of negativity and self doubt starting to creep in, try to drown them out with more positive feelings or try to engage yourself in an absorbing activity. Being mindful of your own feelings it the key to beating depression. It is possible to train yourself out of ruminating and other depressive behavior.
