In the modern age there are some media expectations of what the ideal man’s body should look like.  However, for a lot of men it’s not that easy as many are naturally thin and have a high metabolisms – especially in their teenage years and early twenties.

This can lead to many men wanting to know how they can gain weight and build muscle mass quickly – but due to the sheer volume of misinformation on the Internet it can be quite a murky world with many online retailers attempting to sell non-natural weight gain supplements.  This is a short overview of how to gain weight safely in a healthy manner.

Check Your Weight Before You Start

Weight gain can benefit you in different ways, but before you even attempt to gain weight and muscle mass you should first weight yourself.  This will let you see if you are underweight for your height or not.

If you do find yourself to be underweight then the best way to get it back on will be to identify what made you lose it in the first place – plus you should not rule out medical treatment so make sure you consult with your doctor.

Reasons You Might Have Lost Weight

Weight loss can be attributed to a number of factors, and each one will require its own approach in order to gain weight effectively as a response.  Those reasons include, but are not exclusive to:

  • A medical condition that stops the body absorbing food properly (an example being coeliac disease)
  • An eating disorder (for example anorexia nervosa)

Or you may just simply have a high metabolism, and if that is the case then you should look at more traditional and accessible ways in which to gain weight rather than medical assistance.

How to Gain Weight Safely

In simple terms if you want to put some pounds on and increase your body size then you will need to consume more calories than your body actually uses and burns on a daily basis.  This will need to be done regularly and on a regimented basis as it won’t suffice to simply just eat more snacks as some people tend to do.

The over-riding advice is that if you have any concerns about your weight and want to build muscle fast and put pounds on then always speak to your doctor before embarking on any program you find online.
