Why Is There Tooth Pain After Filling for Weeks

When you are left to deal with cracked and broken teeth and painful cavities, the best advice anyone can give you is to see your dentist about it. In such cases where such dental problems are not as serious, dentists usually have fillings inserted to prevent the tooth from being damaged all the more. Fillings are meant to reduce discomfort from pain inflicted by these dental problems, patients can still experience tooth pain after filling for weeks. There are so many reasons for the cause of the pain, but it should be determined as to what is actually really causing it, to be able to have a suitable treatment applied.

The tooth is cleaned out by a dentist by completely removing any decayed material while under the influence of a local anesthetic. Then the tooth is cleaned from any bacteria and debris that many still be evident on the tooth and then the filling is inserted. Once the filling has been completed, the dentist will have it shaped and then polished. If patients experience prolonged pain after a filling it could be due to the heightened sensitivity that is affected by temperature changes, sweet foods or cold drinks, air, pressure and such. This is just minor and if it still continues and if a desensitizing toothpaste doesn't work, dentists often recommend having a root canal as the pain suggests an unhealthy tissue in the tooth's pulp. When a chipped tooth but no pain situation is present, dentist will have it crowned instead, but this still depends on the case of the dental damage.

Fillings are a wonderful solution to dental problems like these and they are also affordable and available in different materials to suit the dental problem and budget of a patient. Good oral hygiene is still expected after a filling and it should never be taken for granted.
