Using Mother Nature For Natural Hair Restoration

The old line, “You can’t fool Mother Nature,” seems more appropriate every day as we find solutions to health problems which are more effective than the products sold by big pharmaceutical companies.  As we delve into the natural remedy sphere we find that our natural surroundings actually offer good alternatives to most drugs used today.  It has been claimed that in the Amazon rain forest alone, there are enough plants which contain natural health solutions to solve many of our health problems.  This is one of the many arguments for protecting this vast region.  We may be bulldozing over the next cancer or diabetes cure and not even know it.

One plant that is becoming very popular for natural hair restoration is the saw palmetto.  This is a short, about 3 feet tall, palm bush which has been shown to be a natural DHT blocker.  DHT is a hormonal metabolite which causes two known problems in the body.  High levels of the substance have been linked to enlarged male prostate and it has been shown to be a major factor in hair loss due to male pattern baldness.  The saw palmetto has been used for centuries by the native inhabitants of the Southeastern US coast to treat male urinary tract symptoms which include prostate problems.  It is only recently that it has been touted as an effective agent for treating balding problems.

The use of this extract actually came from information derived from clinical trials for an FDA approved drug called Finasteride.  Finasteride was developed as a treatment for male prostate problems by blocking the manufacture of DHT.  During trials it was found that subjects in the study who were also suffering form balding problems saw a marked increase in hair growth and a decrease in hair shedding.  In fact, further studies showed this drug effective in over 70% of the cases.  A savvy health researcher knew about the DHT blocking effects of the Saw Palmetto so trials with it were set up.  Low and behold it appeared that this natural remedy had the same effect.

This is only one of the natural treatments for hair loss which are being used.  Visit us at the Hair Restoration blog to find out more interesting information.
