Finding the Best Acne Treatments for Your Pimples

Acne outbreaks can be an embarrassing and frustrating situation. These outbreaks often occur in teenagers; however, they can also occur in older adults. There are many types of treatments available for acne. Many home therapies are offered; however, most of these treatments are merely old wives tales. There are also over the counter treatments that may be effective for certain minor outbreaks of acne.

If you have a severe outbreak of acne the best thing you can do is visit a dermatologist. There are many forms and variations of acne, and a good dermatologist will be able to prescribe the correct treatment for your specific case. There is no one-size-fits-all treatment for acne. A dermatologist should be able to diagnose your particular skin ailment and arrive at the best treatment option.

Acne treatments come in two main forms. The most popular acne treatments are creams such as benzoyl peroxide. These creams are quite effective in most cases of acne and can be quite affordable. However, if creams do not work there are pills available such as tetracycline that has proven very effective in the treatment of acne. Again, a dermatologist will be able to prescribe the most effective treatment, in their opinion, for your specific case of acne.

Of course, the best solution for acne treatment is to prevent acne. Washing your face daily with a good quality facial cleanser will help keep your face dirt and oil free. This will drastically cut down on the amount of acne breakouts and possibly eliminate the infection from the beginning. Make it a habit to wash your face at least twice a day. Washing your face once in the morning and once before you go to bed is a good habit to acquire.

Remember to seek professional help whenever a severe outbreak occurs. You may end up wasting more money on over-the-counter medications than a dermatologist visit would cost in the first place. Also, keep your face clean and oil free for preventative maintenance.
